FOUR DECADES OF SPARK.

EDM Labs has been cutting conductive material in Fremont, California since 1987. This is the record — the milestones, the machines, and the photographs from the shop floor.

1987

Doors Open

EDM Labs Ltd is founded in the East Bay to serve local tool & die makers with electrical discharge machining nobody else would take on.

1989

New Ownership

Frank Wenzel acquires the shop and sets the standard that still defines it: hold the tolerance, no excuses.

1990s

Wire EDM Expansion

CNC wire machines join the floor, opening up burr-free contour work in hardened steels and exotic alloys.

2000s

Small Hole Drilling

A CT500 EDM drill brings holes down to .005 dia — including .035 dia through 13 inches of 304 stainless.

Today

Seven Machines, Four Specialists

Wire EDM, sinker/RAM EDM, small hole drilling and CNC milling for aerospace, medical and production customers, held to +/-.00005 inch.
